Emotional Intelligence in the workplace

The evidence keeps mounting that emotional intelligence (EI) continues to be the foundation of effective leadership.

In the latest publication from the Korn Kerry Institute, Author Daniel Goleman, an international best-seller and author of “Emotional Intelligence”, talks about how emotional-intelligence-based competencies distinguished outstanding performers about twice as often as purely cognitive competencies.

He states some staggering statistics such as “The higher the position, the more ‘EI’ matters”. For top leadership positions, the EI competencies made up 80 percent to 90 percent of those that distinguished the best leaders from average ones.
